Against Inflammation

Furcation exposure

The term “furcation” refers to the area where the tooth root divides. If the tooth is healthy, the tooth root and furcation are not visible, because they are situated below the gum and are covered by jaw bone. In this area, good dental care is difficult and almost impossible.

So, an increased number of bacteria can accumulate here, which can cause inflammation of the gum. If left untreated, this can subsequently lead to periodontitis. If the furcation needs to be cleaned, it has to be exposed. The best way of preventing inflammatory disease is a regular preventive examination including profession teeth cleaning (PTC) at the dentists.
