What is known as gingival extension is performed to widen the attached gum (keratinised gingiva) This treatment is frequently necessary to treat damaged teeth in cases of gum recession. In addition, we perform the procedure when dentures are to be fitted or before treatment with dental implants.
The main aim is to improve the periodontal environment. It is indicated if the zone of attached gingiva is small, there is persistent inflammation or there are regions with advanced gingival recession. It is not necessary, however, where the gingiva is narrow but healthy. Teeth with advanced periodontitis which need prosthetic treatment often have no attached gingiva, deep periodontal pockets or bone defects.
Various techniques such as FGT, GGT, SBT are used depending on indication.
